Instructions for Authors

Manuscripts should be submitted electronically via the journal's Editorial System. Author(s) declare that the manuscript has not been published elsewhere or is not being considered for publication elsewhere. By submitting your manuscript to this journal you accept that your manuscript may be screened for plagiarism. All the detected cases of scientific misconduct will be exposed, including notification of relevant institutions.  Editors initially verify the manuscript and decide to review it, send it back for adjustment, or reject it.

All submissions to the Journal should be written in American English. The Journal does not offer translation services. In cases English is judged as inadequate, Editors may reject the manuscript or direct the Author(s) to seek editorial services to bring the work to minimum standards for the review process.

The Editors send the anonymous version of the manuscript to two (2) expert reviewers in the field. After receiving reviews, the Editors decide to accept the manuscript, send it back to the Author(s) for corrections, or to reject it. The Author(s) receive the anonymous version of the review. When a manuscript is returned to the corresponding author for revision, it should be returned to the Editorial Office within 14 days; otherwise it may be considered withdrawn. The manuscript is initially accepted for publication and the corresponding Author receives an email with a link to the License Agreement. Each Author is required to fill it in, scan and the corresponding Author shall upload the scanned Agreements to the Editorial System. Then, each Author sends the original copies of the License Agreement to the Editorial Office (in Poland). The manuscript will not be published unless we receive the printed version of the License Agreement from all Authors. A native speaker copy-edits the manuscript. The Author(s) receive the manuscript for the galley proof, which should be sent back to the Editorial Office within 3 working days; otherwise the publication will be withdrawn or published without the Author's corrections. Any alterations in galley proofs, other than the correction of printer’s errors, are made on the author’s responsibility. The Author(s) may not make any changes to the galley proof that exceed 3% of the manuscript's volume, unless these changes have been consulted with the Publisher. Changes that involve, among others, adding new paragraphs to the text or replacing them with new paragraphs of the existing text shall be acceptable only after the Publisher's consent, provided that these changes do not significantly increase the cost of editing and typesetting, and do not jeopardize the release date of the manuscript. The manuscript is published. The full version of the manuscript is available on the journal's website. DOI (digital object identifier) is assigned to the manuscript.  Accepted manuscripts become the property of the publisher i.e. Wroclaw Medical University.  Articles cannot be published in full or in parts without the Publisher's consent.



Abstract of original papers should contain from 200 to 300 words that consists of 5 separate parts introduced by separate subheadings in the following order: Background, Objectives, Material and Methods, Results, Conclusions.

An unstructured abstract of 150 to 250 words is required for review articles. All abbreviations used in the text should be explained in the article.


Key words

Abstract should be followed by 3-5 key words written in the language of the manuscript, and recommended by the "Index Medicus Subject Headings": MeSH (


Main text

Manuscripts should be submitted in the following formats: doc, docx, rtf. The total number of words in review papers should not exceed 6,000 words, and in original papers 5,000 words. References to literature, figures and tables should be placed in the order of their citation in the text. The Author(s) should not use italics, bold or underlined words in the texts. Please use only generic names of drugs.  Laboratory values should be expressed using the International System of Units (SI). The Author(s) should provide short title that does not exceeds 45 characters and spaces. The Author(s) should disclose all financial and material support.



It is the responsibility of the authors to ensure the accuracy of all references according to AMA citation style. References should be limited only to the most recent positions and directly connected to the presented topic. References should be identified by Arabic numerals in superscript and numbered consecutively in the order in which they are first mentioned in the manuscript. Abbreviations for journal names should be cited according to Index Medicus. If a journal is not listed in Index Medicus, its full name should be given. If the cited work is available online, the DOI numer should be given, and in the case of lack thereof - URL with access date.

They may include thanks to persons who have considerably contributed to the paper preparation, but whose contribution was not sufficient enough to rank them as authors. Acknowledgements should be brief, and should not include thanks to anonymous referees and editors, inessential words, or effusive comments.



Tables should be places in separate files. References to Tables should be placed according to the sequence of citing them in the manuscript. Allowed formats: xls, xlsx, doc, docx.



Figures should be placed in separate files. References to Figures should be placed according to the sequence of citing them in the manuscript. Allowed formats: tiff, cdr, eps, jpg, png.

Descriptions of Figures should be placed in the main text.

If the Author used in the Work any figures, photographs, charts, tables etc. which are not his work, and are protected by the copyright law, he/she shall be obliged to provide the Publisher with a written authorization to use such materials issued by the author’s economic rights holders. The Author is required to confirm the source of all figures, photographs, charts, etc.



Original papers should have no more than 12 Authors, reviews no more than 5 Authors.

The authorship should based on the following criteria:

  • Substantial contributions to the conception or design of the work; or the acquisition, analysis, or interpretation of data for the work;
  • Drafting the work or revising it critically for important intellectual content;
  • Final approval of the version to be published.

Authors should meet all three (3) above criteria. If a large, multi-center group conducted the research, the group should identify the individuals who accept direct responsibility for the manuscript. The Author submitting a multi-author manuscript should establish the order of authorship, provide all individual authors of the particular group, as well as provide the group's name. All those designated as authors should meet all criteria for authorship, and all who meet the criteria should be identified as authors. The contribution of each Author must be documented to the extent to take the public responsibility for appropriate portions, the content and the conflict of interests. Authors who do not meet all three criteria of authorship should be acknowledged (prior to their written consent).

All Authors who have made significant contributions should be listed as co-authors and their authorship should be disclosed in accordance with the following list: A – research concept and design; B – collection and/or assembly of data; C – data analysis and interpretation; D – writing the article; E – critical revision of the article; F – final approval of article.


Authors submitting their manuscripts to Wroclaw University Press journals are obliged to use a unique ORCID number (Open Researcher and Contributor ID). It is a popular digital tool allowing for the identification of the author and their research work in scientific communication. You can register for an ORCID number for free at:

Conflict of interest

Authors are required to disclose information about the sources of funding of their manuscript as well as about the contribution of research institutions, associations and other entities ("financial disclosure"). All authors are required to provide a statement of conflicts of interest. At the end of the text, under a subheading "Conflict of interests", all authors must disclose any financial and personal relationships with other people or organizations that could inappropriately influence (bias) their work. Examples of financial conflicts include:

  • employment;
  • consultancies;
  • stock ownership;
  • honoraria;
  • paid expert testimony;
  • patents or patent applications;
  • travel grants.

If there are no conflicts of interest, Authors should state that none exist.


The reviewing process

Each manuscript is reviewed by two independent reviewers. Reviews are based on the, so-called, double-blind review policy. Editors ask the Authors to identify at least two reviewers, which does not mean, however, their automatic choice. The names of reviewers of each publication are not disclosed. The manuscript is qualified for printing after obtaining two (2) positive reviews. In case of one negative review, the Editorial Board reserves the right to reject the manuscript. The list of reviewers is posted on the Journal’s website once a year (in the last issue).


Procedures securing the authenticity of publications

The Editors actively combat all forms of scientific misconduct and the lack of respect for good manners in science (

  • all co-authors should provide a written statement about the originality of the manuscript;
  • all co-authors should disclose their contribution to the manuscript;
  • the originality of the manuscript is assessed by two (2) expert reviewers, the theme editor, a language editor (including a native speaker), and the editor-in-chief;
  • the manuscript is verified by a web-based plagiarism program so as to detect any form of scientific misconduct.

In case of suspected plagiarism or other scientific misconduct, the Editors ask the first or the last Author of the manuscript for clarifications, at the same time putting the preparation of the manuscript on hold. The Editors decide the final fate of the manuscript. The Editors may notify the employer of the first or the last Author if they suspect committing scientific misconduct, or they may refer the matter for further clarification directly to the appropriate ethics committee. If someone outside the editorial team raised the suspicion of scientific misconduct, that person shall be notified of the action taken. The fact that the manuscript has been published does not mean that plagiarism or scientific misconduct have not been committed.   


Ethical considerations

Studies involving experimental animals and humans must be carried out according to the guiding principles of the Declaration of Helsinki. Studies must have been approved by the Institutional Ethical Committee on Human Research at the authors’ institution, and subjects must have given informed consent for participation in the study. All patient personal data must be kept confidential, and all images should be anonymized.
Journal Clinical Education & Medical Simulation has adopted and applies the rules of publication ethics in accordance with COPE guidelines (Committee on Publication Ethics).
